Over the last few decades, we have seen the shift from an economy based on the production of goods to one based on the provision of services, the entry of large numbers of women into the workforce, and the emergence of new digital technologies that have transformed the way people work. This book argues that art and literature not only reflected the transformation of the workplace but anticipated and may have contributed to it as well, providing some of the terms through which resistance to labor was expressed. As firms continue to tout creativity and to reorganize in response to this resistance, they increasingly rely on models of labor that derive from values and ideas found in the experimental poetry and conceptual art of decades past 520 Introduction : the work of art in the age of deindustrialization -- Lyric and the service sector : Frank O'Hara at work -- John Ashbery's free indirect labor -- The poetry of feedback -- The feminization of speed-up -- Art, work, and endlessness in the 2000s 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 American poetry|y20th century|xHistory and criticism 650 0 Poetry|xSocial aspects|zUnited States 650 0 Capitalism and literature|zUnited States 650 0 Postmodernism (Literature)|zUnited States 650 0 Work in literature 650 7 Litteraturvetenskap|2sao 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast 830 0 Post 45 907 00 170915
